Fifty years ago Malta came under the shadow of the Cause of Bahá'u'lláh. About four hundred years before, in 1530, the Knights of St. John, Crusaders and protectors of the Holy shrines of
Christianity, came to Malta. In 1953 three Knights of Bahá'u'lláh arrived to conquer the
souls of the island.
Our prayers and thanks goes to all those who over the years by pioneering, visiting for months, weeks or days assisted the Bahá'í Faith to be
established in Malta.
Malta Community celebrations
The Malta Bahá'í Community celebrated the Golden Jubilee of the Bahá'í Faith
in Malta with an evening of video, talk and music followed by refreshments on the
4th October, fifty years to the actual day from when Una Townshend arrived in Malta. The evening at
The Meridian Phoenicia Hotel opened by a welcome by the MC, Chev. Pier Giorgio
Buttigieg, followed by Mrs. Paulette Crockford, the first resident of Malta to
declare as a Bahá'í in 1972, read a brief history of the Malta community.
This
was followed by the video of the Haifa Tourist Board on the Bahá'í Terraces on
Mt. Carmel, and
then Wendi Momen, the representative of the National Spiritual
Assembly of the Bahá'ís of the United Kingdom, gave an address on 'Unity in
Diversity'. A musical conclusion by a flutist closed the main
programme, and guests arose for refreshments and social interaction.
To this evening distinguished guests from the Malta government and members of
Parliament, Local Councils, and Religious Denominations as well as friends
were invited. About 80 persons attended.

Paulette Crockford, first resident to accept the Faith in
1972, reads a short history of the Bahá'í Faith in Malta
Dr. Wendi Momen gave a talk on 'Unity in Diversity'
Wendi gave an example of how even in the family, through
marriage of different cultures the diversity of the new born is
bringing a unity of humanity.
Ms. Cutajar gave a short recital of music on the flute.
She played two pieces. One by E. Kohler entitled 'Study' and
another by George Philipp Telemann entitled 'Fantasia in D minor'
To proclaim this Jubilee year, quotations from the writings of Bahá'u'lláh and 'Abdu'l-Bahá
are being featured in two national newspapers under the heading 'The Bahá'í Faith - Fifty
Years in Malta'.
Other activities within the Community are planned.
A member of the Malta Bahá'í community celebrated the Golden Jubilee
by an exhibition of paintings entitled ' Kings and Rulers'. Sarah
Warren Cassar's exhibition opened on the 4th October at the St. James
Cavalier, Valletta, Malta and will go on till 9th November.
